Third grade is on their way to getting ready for the PSSA. The children are learning various skills to be prepared for taking the test in March.

The goal for the children is to be proficient or advanced in reading and math.

Some of the reading strategies include reading for detail, locating answers within the text, eliminating incorrect multiple choice answers, and encouraging independent reading of fiction and nonfiction text.

Some of the math strategies include memorizing basic facts, locating "clue words" within a word problem, and using correct terminology when completing math (ex: What is the sum or the difference?).

In addition to those strategies the computer program Compass Odysssey is incorporated into our curriculum. This program reinforces the skills begin taught with fun, interesting, and interactive lessons.

We realize the children may have a little anxiety about this test but as the school year progresses they will become more familiar and confident in taking the test.

We want all the children to do they best they can.
