Preparing for the PSSA test is a multi-faceted task. Studying past PSSA test results identifies areas of concern. Correlating these findings with this year's 4Sight test results guides classroom instruction. Flexible small groups are designed so that children with similar abilities can be helped. These support lessons are beneficial to students who need just that little extra explanation.

Additional focused practice is provided through the use of the PSSA practice booklet purchased with the new Houghton math series. The problems are engineered to parallel actual PSSA test items. Students become familiar with the expectations and format of the actual test. Materials to reinforce lessons in editing, hands-on-science and writing skills has also been purchased.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education has released more items from previous tests. These items are used to help classes understand what is important and how points are earned. These materials challenge students to write clear, concise responses which provide accurate answers and which explain the mathematical reasoning processes used by students. Students find it truly challenging to put their thoughts on paper in a logical, mathematical manner.

The after-school program is designed to assist students with development of reading skills. Small groups, focused skills practice and independent reading exercises along with the students' dedication, develop the necessary skills to be successful.

The PSSA test is always challenging and ever changing. Hopefully, these practices will help 100% of the students achieve the Proficiency level or even higher.
