Welcome....

My name is Miss Lindsey Sissler and I will be the EAP Teacher this year for grades 3,4,5, and 6.  I am looking forward to a successful year full of fun and learning.

What is EAP Tutoring?

EAP stands for Educational Assistance Program.  It is used as a tutoring program to serve your child’s educational needs.  During their tutoring times, students will develop and strengthen skills that are necessary for reading. I will be working with the Soar to Success curriculum, as well as leveled books according to your child’s Instructional Reading Level.  Instruction will be given to students to improve fluency, comprehension, and use of vocabulary.  As the EAP Teacher, I will be planning and implementing specific instruction daily to meet the needs of each child.

When Will Students Receive Tutoring?

Instead of having students stay after school to receive tutoring, we will schedule the tutoring time during the day. During days 2-5, I will enter your child’s classroom for a 30 minute time period.  Instruction with students will be done in a small group setting within the child’s classroom during the regular Differentiated Instruction period.  At the same time, your child’s classmates will also participate in small group instruction with another teacher.  Your child will not “miss out” on regular Reading instruction by the classroom teacher.

How Was My Child Selected For EAP?

Students have been identified for EAP according to their classroom teacher’s input, PSSA, and 4 Sight test results.  It is both my goal and the school’s goal to get these students at a consistent Proficient level.  The EAP grant requires that I work with small groups of students at a time.

How Can I Help?

It is important to remember that learning does not stop when the end of the school day is over.  In order to make this learning process easier for your child, we all must work as a team.  Communication is key! I will be sending letters, notes, and reminders home frequently with your child.  I will also let you know your child’s progress.

Lastly, I ask that you take time to practice reading at home with your child. Be an example by letting them see you reading at home.  And finally encourage your child to attend school daily, participate in lessons, and demonstrate good behavior.
