 Head Lice Checklist

Checked all family members for signs of head lice and nits.

Shampooed hair with a pediculicide

Treated all family members who showed signs of infestation.

Used a special nit comb to remove nits. (Nits look similar to tiny flakes of dandruff, but are difficult to remove -- especially found around nape of neck and around ears.) ALL NITS must be removed!

Comb hair of all family members to remove eggs.

Machine washed in hot, soapy water all washable clothing and bed linens which have been in contact with the infected persons during the last three days, then dried in a hot dryer for at least 20 minutes.

Put pillows and non-washable bedding in dryer in 30 minutes or hung in direct sun for 6 - 8 hours or sealed in a plastic bag for 14 days.

Took all non-washable clothing to the cleaner or sealed in plastic bag for 14 days.

Sealed all non-washable stuffed toys in a plastic bag for 14 days.

Vacuumed all mattresses.

Made all beds with clean linens.

Thoroughly washed all combs, brushes, and hair accessories in very hot water (130 -150 degrees) for ten minutes or soaked articles in a pediculicide shampoo for one hour.

Carefully vacuumed rugs, upholstered furniture, throw pillows, and car seats.

Notified friends who were in close proximity with my child over the last week.
