Elementary students from across the District are participating in a monthly math challenge through the First in Math online program. First in Math Online is a proven math-practice tool that leverages students’ love of online gaming to build math skills and create high levels of engagement.
It features hundreds of engaging math games designed to strengthen fact fluency, automaticity, computational thinking skills and other critical skills.
Students play at school and at home and earn stickers for solving three (3) math problems correctly. There are different levels of sticker counts. Students who earn 10,000 stickers are considered Grand Champions. A student who earns the level of Grand Champion would have solved a minimum of 30,000 math problems correctly.
There is a Family Link ID so families can play together as well. So far, there are 35 family teams playing in the Altoona Area School District.
Beginning in December, the school earning the most stickers for the month earn the rights to house the First in Math Traveling Trophy. Juniata Elementary earned the trophy in December and January's Champion was Ebner Elementary.
